Houston Rockets coach Kevin McHale lost his daughter, 23-year-old Sasha, to a long-term battle with lupus in November.

On Friday, with longtime friend Kevin Garnett in town and the tragedy in Newtown, Conn., on everyone’s minds, things figured to get a little emotional.

McHale drafted Garnett in 1995 when he was acting as general manager of the Timberwolves. McHale ended up coaching Garnett in Minnesota for two seasons before trading him to Boston, and the two have remained close since.

After the Rockets disposed of the Celtics 101-89 on Friday, Celtics coach Doc Rivers gave McHale a hug. Garnett was right behind. The two shared an extended embrace, with both very emotional.
