Buboy FernandezJuan Manuel Marquez may have gotten the better of Manny Pacquiao on Saturday, but apparently that wasn’t the only punching going on in the ring.

As we all know by now, Marquez knocked out Pacquiao cold at the MGM Grand, taking out the Filipino with a mean right hook that had him dazed and on the ground for well over a minute. Unsurprisingly, as Pacquiao fell and as he lay motionless on the ground, press photographers tried to do their job and take pictures of the fallen boxer.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Getty Images photographer Al Bello is saying that two members of Pacquiao’s team kicked, punched and grabbed at him as he took pictures of the boxer. In fact, images of adviser Michael Koncz and assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez doing just that were captured, providing damning evidence.

“Had I not gotten off the ring, I have no doubt the two of them would have beaten the [expletive] out of me and I might have been seriously hurt,” said Bello.

The Nevada Athletic Commission is already promising to look into the incident, but punishment after the fact is kind of beyond the point. The fact is, if you make a spectacle of yourself — and receive a lot of money doing so — for punching another human being, you know the price.

Bello was just doing his job, and if you’re going to be in the spotlight when you win, then you’re going to be in the spotlight when you lose. That’s the price you pay for making money from a bloodbath.
