Mark Sanchez Benched for Greg McElroy As Jets Beat Cardinals

Mark Sanchez, Greg McElroyRex Ryan finally figured out what everyone else in the world already knew — if you bench Mark Sanchez, the Jets will win. And win they did.

Granted, the Jets’ 7-6 victory came over the lowly Cardinals — led by overwhelmed rookie Ryan Lindley — but at this point, a win is a win. The Jets were trailing 3-0 midway through the third quarter when Ryan made the change from Sanchez to second-year quarterback Greg McElroy (Tim Tebow was inactive with broken ribs). And the switch immediately paid dividends as McElroy chucked a one-yard touchdown to Jeff Cumberland.

Earlier in the week, Sanchez said he still “loved” the Jets’ chances to make the playoffs — perhaps he knew of the future switch to McElroy. There’s no word on what the Jets will do next week against Jacksonville, but there may be a full-scale riot in New York if the Jets go back to Sanchez.

Surely Jaguars owner Shad Khan would approve if the Jets started Tebow in Jacksonville next week — it would help ticket sales to have Florida’s glory boy back.
