Playing quarterback in the NFL is never easy, even if some of the better ones make it look that way. No, the reality of the position is that it is incredibly difficult, and that is a fact that many quarterbacks around the league will be more than happy to demonstrate on occasion.
On Monday night, Mark Sanchez was the latest and greatest QB to make a mess of the position, turning the ball over five times — including three times in the fourth quarter — while watching the Jets’ playoff hopes slip away.
Despite how poorly he played, however, Sanchez’s performance against the Titans isn’t the worst that a signal-caller has had this year, from a passer rating standpoint. In fact, it’s not even Sanchez’s worst game in 2012.
Yes, Sanchez had a bad game, and yes, even Tim Tebow had a better passer rating than his starting quarterback on Monday night. Still, when taking a look at some of the worst passer ratings that starters have put forth this year, Sanchez has plenty of company when it comes to playing badly.
