And you thought the Brian Waters saga would end when the regular season started without the lineman in New England. Think again.

Waters and the Patriots were working on a deal in recent weeks to get the lineman back on the team, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That possibility is now moot, however, considering the deadline has passed for players to return.

Waters, 35, was at the center of much speculation throughout training camp and the beginning of the season, with the Patriots apparently letting him stay home with his family in Texas a bit longer before Water abruptly decided he wasn’t going to return to the team at all. Reports also surfaced of a possible contract renegotiation after Waters signed a two-year, $3 million deal last season.
