Donte StallworthLast week, the Patriots brought Donte Stallworth in for a workout and let him go without offering him a contract. After Julian Edelman injured his foot in Miami on Sunday, the Patriots had a change of heart.

The Patriots re-signed their former wide receiver on Monday, according to Jason LaConfora of CBS Sports. Stallworth was in camp with New England this offseason before getting cut on Aug. 27. Stallworth was also on the Patriots’ 2007 16-0 squad, where he caught 46 passes for 697 yards and three touchdowns.

After cutting Deion Branch and Greg Salas, the Patriots would have been dangerously low at the wide receiver position if Edelman is out for a prolonged period. Branch is still dealing with a hamstring issue, according to Mike Girardi of Comcast Sports Net.
