The Jets hit another new low Monday night, with Mark Sanchez doing all he could to set the quarterback position back a generation or two. Apparently, the Jets have seen enough.

The Jets have decided to start Greg McElroy — not Sanchez or Tim Tebow — on Sunday against the Chargers.

Sanchez was once again abysmal Monday night against the Tennessee Titans. The struggling quarterback was just 13-for-28 for 131 yards with four interceptions. He also botched a snap out of the shotgun formation in the game’s final moments, sealing another Jets loss and ensuring New York will miss the playoffs this season.

McElroy made his debut in Week 13. The second-year quarterback came off the bench and replaced Sanchez, completing five of seven passes for 29 yards and a touchdown. That was good enough to squeak out a 7-6 win over the lowly Cardinals.

It’s still unclear at this point which quarterback will back up McElroy on Sunday. McElroy was the backup in Week 13 primarily because of an injury to Tebow. However, when Tebow was healthy enough to return, he was activated and McElroy was deactivated, as was the case Monday night in Tennessee.
