The Patriots will be without their No. 3 wide receiver for the remainder of the season.
The Patriots announced on Twitter they’ve placed Julian Edelman on injured reserve, ending his season. Edelman hurt his foot in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win over the Dolphins and was seen leaving the locker room on crutches in a walking boot.
The Patriots already made plans to replace Edelman on Tuesday by signing wide receiver Donte Stallworth. Stallworth was with the team in training camp and during the 16-0 2007 season.
Edelman has 21 receptions for 235 yards and three touchdowns, while also contributing four rushes for 45 yards. His contributions may be missed most on special teams, where he’s returned 17 punts for 263 yards and a touchdown.
The team also announced they’ve released offensive lineman Mitch Petrus, and signed offensive linemen Tommie Draheim and Colin Miller to the practice squad. Since the Patriots received a roster exemption for rookie running back Brandon Bolden, who is coming off a four-game suspension, they still have an open spot on their 53-man roster.
