Mike NapoliAs the Red Sox’ negotiations with Mike Napoli have clearly become protracted, Boston isn’t waiting around. Apparently, neither is Napoli.

The Red Sox had reportedly made contact with former Washington Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche, who had a brief stint in Boston back in 2009. Now, Napoli is reportedly talking with at least one other team besides the Red Sox, according to a report by WEEI’s Rob Bradford. However, any other interested parties have not extended Napoli a formal contract offer.

Though the same basic framework of a three-year, $39 million contract is reportedly still on the table, negotiations between the Red Sox and Napoli seem to have hit a snag over information from Napoli’s physical examination, specifically the catcher/first baseman’s hip. The remaining issues between the two parties may be due to language protecting the team in Napoli’s contract.
