Report: NHL to Cancel Games Through Dec. 30

Dec 10, 2012

It looks like more games are getting tossed out.

The NHL is cancelling games through Dec. 30., according to TSN’s Darren Dreger. The league had previously cancelled all games through Dec. 14, in addition to the annual Jan. 1 Winter Classic and the All-Star Game.

This news can be looked at in one of two ways. On one hand, it’s unfortunate that the league is cancelling more games. On the other, the cancellation of more games seemed like a foregone conclusion, so the fact that the cancellations are only through Dec. 30 might actually be encouraging. (Well, not exactly encouraging, but you get the point.)

Negotiations between the NHL and NHLPA suffered a major breakdown last week, thus casting further doubt over the season. The two sides are expected to resume negotiations this week.
