Ryan DempsterRyan Dempster was a name on Boston’s mind before the trade deadline last summer, but the Texas Rangers ended up scooping him up in their playoff push.

Boston is now said to be interested in the right-hander the second time around.

The Red Sox have “checked in” on Dempster, according to Alex Speier of WEEI. Dempster, 35, is said to want a three-year deal.

Dempster moved back into a starting role with the Cubs in 2008 after four years coming out of the bullpen and has pitched 200 or more innings in each year since, except for last season. He’s gone 65-49 with a 3.74 ERA over those years and was 12-8 with a 3.38 ERA last season with the Cubs and Rangers.
