The Houston Texans will be traveling to Foxboro this weekend looking like they’re ready to battle under the Friday night lights between rows of metal bleachers, not on Monday night in front of 68,000 people at Gillette Stadium.
That’s because the team had custom Texans letterman jackets made, and they will wear them for the rest of the season. The idea was spawned by defensive tackle Shaun Cody, who ran the idea by linebacker Connor Barwin, according to the team’s website. The idea came into fruition when the team’s director of equipment services, Jay Brunetti, had the jackets made and delivered by a local company.
Barwin has grand plans for the jackets, including putting a 2011 AFC South Champions patch on the sleeve, followed up by whatever honors the team earns this season — he mentioned another division patch, a conference patch and a Super Bowl patch. Barwin also wants the team to dress in uniform while traveling to New England.
“We have a dress code,” Barwin said. “The idea is to wear them on the trip to New England — everybody’s going to wear them on the plane, on the trip to New England, on the bus. [I’m] pushing for khaki pants, white shirt, blue tie, jacket, so it looks like we’re about to get on a yellow bus with shoulder pads in our hands.”
The jackets have the Texans logo on the left chest, with the player’s number and position on the right sleeve. Take a look at Barwin, Antonio Smith and Kareem Jackson modeling their new threads in the photos below.
