Tim Tebow Told Rex Ryan He Wants to Play ‘Regular Quarterback’ in Meeting

The Jets’ quarterback saga just refuses to end.

After last weekend’s decisive 27-17 loss to the San Diego Chargers, it looks like things can’t get much worse for New York. On top of the loss, itself, third-string quarterback Greg McElroy went down with an injury, and is listed as questionable for Week 17. So, could Tim Tebow or Mark Sanchez get that last start?

Well, one place we probably won’t be seeing Tebow is in the wildcat. It’s already been well documented that Tebow specifically asked out of the package in a meeting with head coach Rex Ryan. Tebow apparently feels he was misled about his role on the team, and is frustrated about his use.

However, Tebow apparently told Ryan at least one other thing, as well. According to the New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta, Tebow told Ryan that he just wanted to play “at regular quarterback.”

Perhaps that’s unsurprising, given that Tebow has clearly always thought of himself as capable of being a conventional quarterback, not just a gimmick who can block and run. Nonetheless, it speaks to the divide between the Jets’ quarterbacks and their coaches, a situation which has long since boiled over.
