There is something elegant and special about attending a main event to support a specific team of yours. And the chance of a lifetime is in one’s very hands until the Fed Ex package opens with something that was unexpected.
According to the San Jose Mecury News, a Hayward, Calif., couple ordered four tickets for Super Bowl XLVII worth $5,900 on Craigslist. Instead of receiving their tickets, however, a package arrived a week later with a note that read “ENJOY THE GAME!!!! GOO RAVENS!!! LOL.”
Sharon Osgood, a four-year season ticket holder for the San Francisco 49ers, was communicating with the supposed ticket seller for a week.
“For a week I was on the phone with this guy,” Osgood said. “That’s the only reason why we [trusted him].”
“I’m just sick — like, physically sick,” she said. “All over the envelope it says ‘go Ravens’ — even on the FedEx label.”
According to Osgood, the scam artist described himself as a corporate tax attorney living in Boca Raton, Fla., and the reasoning for giving the tickets away was that his wife was expecting a baby.
Regardless of these series of events taking place, there is a game to be played, as Osgood reiterates.
“Do we want to let this affect our celebration of our team going to the Super Bowl?” she said. “We need to get past that.”
