Chip Kelly Waiting to Take Over as Patriots Head Coach, According to Oregonian Writer

Chip Kelly has had many opportunities to take the NFL plunge. In the last month alone, he was courted by the Browns, Bills and Eagles — to all of whom, he politely declined whatever offer they may have made.

While the New Hampshire native has arguably the best amateur gig in the country as head coach of the Oregon Ducks, one Oregon sports writer believes he’s just hanging out in Eugene until that dream job finally becomes available.

That dream gig? Head coach of the New England Patriots.

John Canzano of The Oregonian believes that Kelly, who even visited with the Patriots this offseason, “absolutely wants … the [job] currently held by 60-year-old three-time Super Bowl champion head coach Bill Belichick, who is as close to Kelly in his monomaniacal drive and ultimate hands-on style as there is in sports.”

After all, it’s “the dream gig of every little kid who grows up in New England,” as Canzano points out, while adding that ”Belichick has unique control of Robert Kraft‘s franchise in the same way Kelly does at Oregon.”

Sure, this could be one of the more ridiculous theories out there, but as we’ve seen here in New England, the Pats have hired head coaches in some of the strangest scenarios imaginable.
