Chris Kluwe normally plays football in front of thousands of fans at the stadium and millions more watching from home, so it’s not surprising that he’d be at ease appearing on a cable TV program.

Kluwe, an outspoken proponent of gay marriage, appeared on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report on Tuesday night, explaining his views to host Stephen Colbert. Recounting his skirmish with a Maryland congressman over issues of free speech and gay marriage, Kluwe reiterated his belief that “people are people” and should be treated as such.
