Detroit Red Wings backup goaltender Thomas McCollum may not see a lot of ice time behind Jimmy Howard this season, but if playing time was dictated by the greatest hockey masks, then he would be starting every game.
McCollum, who was just called up from the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins on Wednesday, wears a mask that features the late Chris Farley wearing a Red Wings jersey with the words “Tommy Boy” underneath the cartoon.
The mask may not intimidate his opponents, but if McCollum imitates the “fat guy in a little coat” scene while in goal, he may just succeed in distracting them.
