Frank LampardCheck here throughout the day, as we’ll be following the moving targets that are January’s transfer rumors.

7 p.m.: That wraps up the transfer news and rumors for Jan. 9. Check NESN.com on Jan. 10 for another look at the day’s transfer activity.

6:50 p.m.: QPR manager Harry Redknapp is trying to engineer an escape (from relegation) act of mythical proportions.

He’s bid £5 million ($8 million) for West Brom’s Jonas Olsson. The 29-year-old Swede has been an ever-present figure on West Brom’s back line since joining the club in 2008.

The Mirror also reports Redknapp wants to sign William Gallas from Tottenham. The two worked together in North London for two seasons from 2010-12. It will be tough, as Gallas has started 17 league games this season.

Ryan Nelsen’s QPR departure looks imminent as he has been hired as Toronto FC’s latest head coach. Either Gallas or Olsson can be viewed as a replacement for the QPR captain.

6:40 p.m.: Manchester United have swooped for 20-year-old Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha. The Premier League leader is competing with Arsenal and Tottenham for the talented winger’s services.

The Mirror reports United has offered £8 million ($12.8 million) plus add-ons which include “a loan-back option for the rest of the season and the promise of further player loans to Palace to boost their bid for promotion from the Championship – which take the whole package up to around £12 million [$19.2 million].”

4:50 p.m.: Newcastle defender David Santon has no interest in joining AC Milan. He came to England from Inter Milan in August 2011.

Also on the Newcastle front, Loic Remy may not be leaving Olympique Marseille after all. He is thought to be in line to replace departed striker Demba Ba.

3:40 p.m.: Inter Milan wants to sell Wesley Sneijder in January. Sneijder wants to leave too.

The Dutch playmaker could be headed for Turkey, as Galatasaray and Inter have agreed a transfer fee. It’s believed to be around €10 million ($13.1 million), and the player has opened negotiations with the Turkish club.

For what it’s worth, Sneijder’s wife Yolanthe Cabau loves Istanbul, Football Italia reports.

3:15 p.m.: David Beckham is moving back to London with his family, according to the BBC.

Where he plays next is anyone’s guess. As we all know, he’s in no hurry to make up his mind.

3 p.m.: Remember Ricardo Quaresma? The Portuguese winger didn’t quite cut it in Turkey. He left Besiktas Wednesday, moving to Dubai’s  Al Ahli.

The words “fall from grace” come to mind when thinking about the fate of the former Barcelona, FC Porto, Inter Milan, Chelsea and Besiktas man.

2:45 p.m.: Everton star Marouaine Fellaini is having a good to great season, depending on who you ask. His Everton future is up in the air too.

The BBC reports his contract contains a release clause — believed to be in the  £22m ($35.3 million) region.

He could stay with the Toffees, as they pursue a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, or he could move to a club that is already playing in Europe’s elite competition.

2:30 p.m. ET: It’s safe to say this will be Frank Lampard’s last season as a Chelsea player. That much is a given, as Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is bent on moving on from the era of the “Old Guard.”

Lampard has been linked with moves to Arsenal, Queens Park Rangers and even Manchester United. Andrea Pirlo wants him to join Italian club Juventus, saying he’d welcome his English counterpart “with open arms.”

Timing is the key issue here. Will he see out his expiring contract, or will Chelsea look to sell him before Feb. 1?
