The Dallas Cowboys will look a little different next season, even with their owner/general manager, head coach and quarterback all staying in place.
Jerry Jones said he was stripping Jason Garrett of play-calling duties on Tuesday, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPN.com. Offensive coordinator Bill Callahan will take over. Callahan was the offensive coordinator for the Raiders from 1998 to 2001 before taking over as head coach for the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
Callahan has made headlines this week for more dastardly reasons as Tim Brown and Jerry Rice have both accused their former head coach of sabotaging the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII. The star wide receivers said Callahan changed his game plan two days before their matchup with the Buccaneers because he hated the Oakland organization.
The move from Garrett to Callahan comes just weeks after defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was fired and 72-year-old Monte Kiffin was announced as his replacement. Dallas’ defensive alignment will change from a 3-4 to 4-3 because of the transition.
