John Harbaugh Says He Hopes Father Is ‘Drinking Beers’ in Celebration of Super Bowl Showdown Between Sons

FOXBORO, Mass. — Much will be made of the “Harbowl” set to take place in New Orleans in two weeks. But while Jim and John Harbaugh prepare for a brotherly battle in the Super Bowl, their father Jack, a former coach himself, is surely reveling in the opportunity to see his two sons compete on the biggest stage.

After celebrating the Ravens’ AFC Championship Game win on Sunday night, John Harbaugh was bombarded with questions about squaring off with his brother in the biggest game of the year. While he tried his best to deflect any of the attention from the sibling showdown, Harbuagh did take some time to mention his parents, especially his father.

“I don’t know what he’s thinking. You’ll have to give him a call and ask him. He’s proud,” John said. “He’s in the basement down in Mequon [Wisc.]. … I hope he and mom have a big hug going.”

While he wouldn’t delve too far into the specifics of the aptly named “Harbowl,” John did have one last thought on his dad’s reaction to the news.

“I hope he’s on his fourth or fifth beer right now, that’s what I’m hoping for,” Harbaugh said to a round of laughs from the media.

The storyline for this epic tale may grow old and stale over the course of the next few weeks for both the brothers and the fans at home. But Jack Harbaugh will certainly enjoy every last moment of it, and maybe even with a beverage or two.
