Well, geez, Nick Saban. We just wanted to know if you would come to the bake sale.

The Alabama coach appeared to be a little irritated this weekend by the voluminous rumors of his return to the NFL. He shot down speculation again as he prepared to lead the Crimson Tide in college football’s national title game Monday, saying that not only is he not interested in coaching in the NFL again, but even the suggestion may be pushing it too much.

As George Schroeder of USA Today writes:

Saban had a rocky stint in his only head coaching appearance in the NFL, when he led the Miami Dolphins in 2005-2006. While some say that he was handcuffed by his inability to make the personnel moves he wanted, others pointed to his 15-17 record and the trail of criticism left behind him as evidence that the control-heavy coach will only thrive in the college game.

Either way, we’re not going to find out this season. Saban has taken his ball and gone to the BCS title game.
