Ray LewisFootball is a game full of emotions and momentum swings. The motivation for such swings can come from something as common as a touchdown or a turnover, or it could come from something as unexpected as a teammate’s inspiring sermon before the game.

The NFL faced the fate of losing one of its great ambassadors of the game on Wednesday, when arguably the most emotional and motivational player in the league announced his retirement.

Ray Lewis decided to call it quits after this season, explaining to his teammates that this would be his “last ride.” The legendary Ravens linebacker announced that he would be hanging up his cleats after Baltimore’s playoff run, closing the book on a Hall of Fame career.

Lewis’ retirement means that the heart and soul of the Ravens’ locker room — or any locker room, for that matter — will no longer be inspiring his teammates. With that motivational attitude in mind, we decided to seek out some of the best motivators, college or pro, that football has to offer.
