Andy Reid, who was fired by the Eagles on Monday after 14 years and a 130-93 record with the franchise, is reportedly close to a deal to become the new head coach in Arizona, according to Tim King of KTVK-TV in Phoenix. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports said earlier Tuesday that he expected Reid to land with the Cardinals. Adam Schefter of ESPN said a deal could be reached by the end of the week.
If Reid does end up in Arizona, that would reunite him with Kevin Kolb, who had a breakout stretch in Philadelphia after taking over for Donovan McNabb. He was traded to the Cardinals for the 2010 season to make space for Michael Vick to start and has struggled in Arizona, recording 17 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with a 58.5 completion percentage and a 83.2 quarterback rating in 14 starts. He has also struggled with injuries.
Reid, who had built what seemed like the model franchise in Philadelphia before the team was undone by a rash of big signings and expectations over the past two years, would have a bit of a rebuilding job to do in Arizona with a team that went 5-11 last season. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network says the Cardinals could keep most of their defensive coaching staff intact with Reid.
