Report: Brian Wilson Not Offered Major League Contract by Mets After Disappointing Workout

wilsonIt’s been awhile since we’ve seen the black beard of Brian Wilson on the mound in a major league game. The former Giants closer is attempting to return to the big leagues after undergoing Tommy John surgery last April, but was dealt another setback in his road to recovery.

The World Series-winning hurler worked out for members of the Mets organization this past weekend in California, but was not considered healthy enough to warrant a major league contract, a source tells the New York Post. Wilson reportedly had no interest in signing a minor league deal, though it is unclear if one was offered.

“Physically, he’s not ready,” the source told the Post. “He’s got a ways to go.”

Wilson made just two appearances for the Giants in 2012 before elbow problems shelved him for the year. He spent the previous six seasons with San Francisco, where he was named to three All-Star teams and led the National League with 48 saves in 2010.

A native of Londonderry, N.H., the right-hander had previously expressed interest in joining the Red Sox.
