Report: Former Bruin Mark Recchi to Join Dallas Stars’ Front Office

recchiJust as the Bruins are finally getting set to take the ice for the 2013 season, one of the stars of the team’s 2011 Stanley Cup run is making a return to the game as well.

Former Bruins forward and alternate captain Mark Recchi will join the front office of the Dallas Stars, the Dallas Morning News reports. The move is expected to announced at a news conference on Thursday.

According to Comcast SportsNet New England’s Joe Haggerty, Recchi will serve as a special advisor to Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk.

The seven-time All-Star played for seven different teams during his 22-year career — though never with Dallas — and spent his final three seasons in Boston, where he won his third and final Stanley Cup. Since retiring from the game, the British Columbia native has served as a co-owner of his hometown team — the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League — with whom he played his junior hockey in the late 1980s.

Though Recchi never suited up for the Stars, Mike Modano and Marty Turco — a pair of Dallas greats — are also reported to be returning to the team in non-playing roles. Modano will join the front office as an executive advisor and alternate Board of Governor while Turco, who also started five games in goal for Boston last season, will join the Stars’ broadcast team as an analyst.
