Latrell Sprewell apparently had fun on New Year’s Eve. Maybe a little too much fun.
Sprewell, who last played in the NBA in 2004-05, was charged with disorderly conduct Monday afternoon after police received repeated complaints about loud music coming from a house, according to jail records reviewed by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Police reportedly wouldn’t release details of the incident, so it’s unclear what exactly led to Sprewell’s arrest, but apparently loud music is Spree’s thing. Police reportedly said that they received two complaints within one hour on Monday and have received several complaints about loud music from the residence in recent months.
Perhaps the best part of the story, though, is that Sprewell was booked into jail at about 4:15 p.m., meaning the 42-year-old’s New Year’s Eve festivities came to an abrupt halt before most people had even hopped into the shower to get ready.
Obviously, this isn’t the first time Sprewell has made headlines for unflattering reasons. While he was a four-time NBA All-Star throughout his 13-year career, during which he played for the Warriors, Knicks and Timberwolves, Sprewell often found himself in the news for his questionable behavior. The incident that will forever taint Sprewell’s career, of course, was him choking Warriors coach P.J. Carlesimo in 1997.
Sprewell, who has also been in the news in recent years for tax issues, retired following the 2004-05 season. He reportedly turned down a three-year, $21 million contract offer from Minnesota at the time, insisting he needed more money to feed his family.
