Report: Mariners, Marlins Have Discussed Deal for Giancarlo Stanton

The Marlins have said they aren’t shopping Giancarlo Stanton, but that hasn’t stopped teams from asking about the star outfielder.

The Seattle Mariners have discussed a possible deal with Miami for Stanton, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports. Morosi said Seattle’s pitching prospects could interest the Marlins.

The Mariners have right-hand pitcher Taijuan Walker, left-hander Danny Hultzen, lefty James Paxton and righty Brandon Maurer in their minor league system. Even after trading for Kendrys Morales and signing Jason Bay and Raul Ibanez, the Mariners could still afford to add some power to their lineup. Stanton would provide that and more.

The Miami outfielder hit 37 home runs last season, with a .969 OPS. His .608 slugging percentage led the National League. Stanton turned 23 in November, and he already has 93 home runs in three seasons in the majors.
