Robert Griffin III Consoled Tony Romo After Cowboys’ Loss to Redskins on Sunday

Tony Romo, Robert Griffin IIIIt won’t be an easy offseason for Tony Romo after losing the sixth elimination game of his career. But Robert Griffin III tried to ease the pain for the Cowboys’ quarterback after the Redskins knocked Romo out of playoff contention.

Griffin headed straight for Romo after Sunday night’s game, and told him to ignore his detractors.

“Hey Tony. I just wanted to say to you, don’t listen to what anybody else is saying about you,” Griffin said to Romo according to Pro Football Talk. “You’re a great quarterback, man. And this game doesn’t mean anything.”

The comments were recorded by NFL Films and will air on Wednesday night’s episode of Inside the NFL. Romo completed 20 of 37 attempts against Washington, with 218 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. The Cowboys were down 21-18 with three minutes left in the game when Romo threw an interception to linebacker Rob Jackson. The Redskins scored a touchdown on the ensuing drive to put the game away.

There has already been talk of the Cowboys possibly replacing Romo at quarterback, but head coach Jason Garrett quelled those sentiments telling the Dallas Morning News, ““We have a great belief of Tony Romo as our quarterback. … We all know that we want to take the next step, and Tony is going to be a big part of that going forward.”

For 2013, the Cowboys have quarterbacks Romo, veteran Kyle Orton and 2012 rookie Nick Stephens under contract.
