The baseball world lost a legend on Saturday. Stan Musial, who played 22 years with the St. Louis Cardinals, died on Saturday at the age of 92.
“Stan the Man” won seven batting titles, was named an All-Star a record 24 times and recorded a career batting average of .331 during his long stint with St. Louis. The outfielder-first baseman also helped lead the Cardinals to three World Series championships in the 1940s.
At the time of his retirement in 1963, Musial held or shared 17 major league records, 29 National League records, and nine All-Star Game records. His success continued as he was named general manager of the Cardinals in 1967, the year in which they beat the Red Sox in the World Series.
Musial passed away Saturday evening surrounded by family.
