Lance Armstrong should, if he hasn’t already, send a thank you card to Manti Te’o. That’s because the former Notre Dame linebacker’s fake girlfriend just totally took the fraudulent cyclist completely off the hook.
Armstrong will reportedly admit his doping habits to Oprah Winfrey in a recorded interview on Thursday night, finally confirming what so many had thought for so long — that he was, indeed, cheating on his way to seven Tour de France titles.
That sounded like it was going to be a pretty big deal, even if it was just confirming what most people already knew or at least suspected. Instead, Armstrong has been pushed to the back burner now, with the jaw-dropping story about Te’o and his fake girlfriend.
Both are big stories for obvious reasons, though. Both indicate massive falls from grace and both are rooted in deceit. Given the media attention for both, the two stories don’t appear to be going away any time soon. Which one is the bigger story, though?
