Editor’s note: As part of NFL’s Greatest Quarterback, fans will decide the best QB in each team’s history. We are only picking one team per quarterback, so Steve McNair will be included with the Titans and Vinny Testaverde will be included with the Buccaneers.
Tony Banks: After getting drafted No. 42 overall in the 1996 NFL draft by the Rams, Banks was traded to the Ravens in 1999 for fifth-round and seventh-round picks. Banks took over the starting role for the Ravens after Scott Mitchell and Stoney Case faltered, and led the team to a 6-4 record in 1999.
It was his best year as a pro, throwing for 2,136 yards, 17 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in 10 games. Banks began the 2000 season as a starter before getting replaced by Trent Dilfer midway through the year. Dilfer eventually led the team to a Super Bowl victory that season.
Trent Dilfer: Dilfer had a short tenure with Baltimore, but he has the distinction of leading the team to their only Super Bowl victory in 2000. Dilfer took over for Tony Banks halfway through the season and led the 2000 Ravens to a 7-1 record during the regular season.
Known mostly as a game manager, Dilfer completed 12 of 25 passes in Super Bowl XXXV, with 153 yards and one touchdown.
Kyle Boller: After playing for one season under Jeff Tedford at Cal, the Ravens made Boller their No. 19 overall selection in the 2003 NFL Draft. Boller ultimately had a disappointing career in Baltimore, failing to lead the team to the playoffs in his four years as a starting quarterback.
The Ravens were 20-22 under Boller, who lost his job in 2006 when the Ravens traded for Steve McNair. Boller’s best season came in 2004, when he led Baltimore to a 9-7 record while throwing for 2,559 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushing the ball for another 189 yards and one touchdown.
Joe Flacco: Flacco had one of the most impressive rookie seasons in NFL history, starting out of the gate in 2008 and leading his team to an 11-5 record while throwing nearly 3,000 yards. Flacco’s Ravens have made the playoffs in all five seasons of his NFL career.
The Ravens’ current quarterback is 8-4 in the postseason. Flacco has started every Ravens game for five years straight now, and has led the team to a 52-26 record. Flacco will lead the Ravens to his first Super Bowl on Feb. 3.
