Saturday night was the second annual NFL Honors Awards show where the biggest AP honors of the season are presented to their recipients.
Alec Baldwin was on hand to host the show, and as far as sports awards show monologues go, this one was top notch (though nothing will ever beat Norm Macdonald‘s at the 1998 ESPYs). Baldwin didn’t pull any punches, as he went after Peyton Manning, Rob Gronkowski, Brett Favre, Ndamukong Suh and even J.J. Watt during the opener.
Among Baldwin’s best zingers:
-”J.J. Watt, the answer to the question: What if Rocky and Drago had a son together.”
-”It’s exciting to be here in New Orleans. Things have been pretty out of control all week in the French quarter — drinking, partying, nudity, and that’s just Rob Gronkowski.”
-”Andrew Luck had to overcome a debilitating neck beard.”
-”Russell Wilson threw for over 3,000 yards. But that also meant over 3,000 hugs from Pete Carroll.”
-”The biggest name from the college football season is also here, Katherine Webb — girlfriend of Alabama quarterback ‘what’s his name.’”
-”Jim Harbaugh and John Harbaugh, brother against brother coaching tomorrow. One of them will be victorious, will have to assume the burden of being the most successful brother in the family. It’s a curse, am I right, Eli [Manning]?”
