Alfonzo DennardWord came down on Alfonzo Dennard‘s assault trial, and for now, it’s not good news.

The Patriots cornerback was found guilty on Wednesday of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer. Dennard will be sentenced on April 11 and faces up to six years in prison.

The Patriots may need to enter the offseason assuming they won’t have Dennard solidifying one of the cornerback spots. That could mean a higher priority is placed on bringing back Aqib Talib. The Patriots will also need to take a look at their free agent options at the position, which include Brent Grimes, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Terence Newman.

Right now, the only cornerbacks signed on the roster are Dennard, Ras-I Dowling, safety Devin McCourty and special teamer Malcolm Williams. That means the Patriots will likely also draft a cornerback with one of their top two picks.

NESN.com’s NFL editor Luke Hughes and Doug Kyed ran through all the Patriots’ offseason needs on defense in this week’s NFL podcast.
