Brent Grimes, Terrell OwensThe Patriots improved on defense all year, but some issues still need fixing this offseason.

While the focus with the offense was on wide receivers, the defense’s needs are similar. The Patriots need help at cornerback.

Aqib Talib added some life to the unit during his half-season in New England, but he’s headed for free agency, and doubts continue to grow about his potential return.

New England also needs improvements at safety. Devin McCourty established himself as a mainstay for the near and distant future, but Steve Gregory is still a question mark, and it might be time to infuse some fresh blood — ahem, Ed Reed.

There are lingering questions along the defensive line and even at the linebacker position, which should spark some conversation this offseason, too. So, with all that in mind and so many prime free agents set to test the market, let’s take a look at who Bill Belichick might be looking to ink this offseason.
