Joel Hanrahan Confident in His Golf Skills, Thinks Pirates Might Miss His Expertise on the Links

When Joel Hanrahan arrived in Boston, he brought a solid track record, high expectations and apparently a fairly decent golf swing.

The Red Sox hit the links for their annual Southwest Florida Children’s Hospital celebrity golf tournament on Friday, and Hanrahan thinks he might be worthy of being labeled the team’s best golfer.

“I think I’m going on three [tournament wins] in a row,” Hanrahan said of his time with the Pirates, according to the Boston Herald.

Hanrahan spent the last four seasons with the Pirates, earning two All-Star selections and evidently racking up plenty of golf accolades as well. The new Boston closer wonders how his old Pittsburgh teammates fared during their tournament on Thursday now that his golfing expertise is no longer in the mix.

“The two head golfers from there last year are both down here in Fort Myers now — me and my buddy Kevin Correia with the Twins,” Hanrahan reportedly said. “I can’t imagine that golf tournament is very good.”

Hanrahan also had a strong showing in the Red Sox’ Beautyrest Baggo Classic this spring training. Is there anything the  guy can’t do?
