With his first Super Bowl win, Ravens coach John Harbaugh joined an elite fraternity. Early next year, he’ll join another.
Miami (Ohio) University — Harbaugh’s alma mater — announced Tuesday that the coach will be inducted into the school’s Cradle of Coaches Association and have a statue of his likeness erected at Miami’s Yager Stadium. The ceremony and statue unveiling will likely take place early in 2014, according to the Ravens’ website.
Though the RedHawks are hardly a college football powerhouse, Miami has served as a pipeline for some of the most successful collegiate and professional coaches of the last century. Previous inductees into the Cradle of Coaches include Ara Parseghian, Paul Brown, Earl Blaik, Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, Jim Tressel and Sean Payton.
“Miami is a very special place and as anyone who played or coached at Miami knows that the Cradle of Coaches is a great honor,” Harbaugh said in a press release. “To me, there is no greater recognition in coaching. To be included with these great men is something only dreamed about.”
Harbaugh, who played for Miami as a defensive back in the early 1980s, holds a 54-26 through his first two seasons in Baltimore.
