Kevin Garnett, Andrea BargnaniKevin Garnett grinned when he was told on Sunday that teammate Jason Terry was amazed at what Garnett was able to do on a basketball court “at 50 years old.”

Garnett, who is actually only 36, shot back.

“Jet’s no spring chicken, either,” he said.

Garnett and Terry are two of the NBA’s oldies but goodies. Along with Paul Pierce, another player performing at an All-Star level past his 35th birthday, they have helped the Celtics rebound from the loss of Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger. Injuries were expected to derail the Celtics this season, but so far it has been the 20-somethings who have struggled to stay on the court.

All around the league, players pushing 40 are still having success. Call it a miracle of modern science or plain old hard work, but never before have so many veterans been such key pieces to so many strong teams.
