Linesman Misses Matt Duchene Being Offside by Mile, Leads to Goal for Avalanche Forward (Video)

Sometimes in sports, the worst officiating calls are the ones that aren’t even made.

That was the case Monday in Colorado where the Avalanche and Predators got together for a little holiday matinee hockey. The two clubs faced off in Denver in what ended up being a wild affair, with the Avs coming away with a 6-5 win.

They were certainly helped by an egregious non-call, however.

Colorado forward Matt Duchene was able to walk in all alone and score on Nashville’s Chris Mason. The reason Duchene was so alone, though, was because he was a few steps offside when he controlled the puck.

Nashville head coach Barry Trotz was beside himself over the non-call, and for good reason. According to Joshua Cooper, Preds beat writer for The Tennessean, Trotz revealed after the game that the league told him offside should have been called.

Duh.

That probably did little to make Trotz feel better after his team lost the game by one goal.
