Mike Napoli may be slated to get the majority of the at-bats at first base, but there are a couple reasons it may make sense to have a dedicated backup.

For one, though he’s never suffered any symptoms from it, there’s no telling when the degenerative condition in Napoli’s hip may act up. Secondly, Napoli is probably best deployed in a platoon, taking most of his at-bats against lefties.

But that’s why the Red Sox brought Lyle Overbay and Mike Carp in to camp to compete for a job. Check out the video above to hear Carp’s thoughts on being in Fort Myers with Boston.

Aetna Strikeouts for A Cause

For every strikeout by a Red Sox pitcher at Fenway Park in June, Aetna will donate $250 to Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. Through June 25, the donation mark stands at $30,000.

Through their continued efforts in the local community, Aetna is helping to build a healthier world -- one city and one strikeout at a time.
