Either Mike Piazza doesn’t want to sell books, or he really didn’t use steroids.
The former catcher denies using steroids in his yet-to-be-released autobiography “Long Shot,” according to the New York Times. Piazza was denied entry into the Baseball Hall of Fame this year. He is well regarded as one of the best hitting catchers in the history of baseball. Piazza received 57.8 percent of the vote — 75 percent is needed to gain entry.
Piazza did admit to using androstenedione and amphetamines before they were banned by Major League Baseball in the book. He also talks about his moody attitude while playing, his mixed feelings about Bobby Valentine, rumors that he was gay and his clash with Roger Clemens in the 2000 World Series.
Piazza was drafted in the 62nd round of the 1988 MLB draft. He went on to compile a .308 career batting average, .922 OPS, 427 home runs, 12 All-Star appearances and a Rookie of the Year award.
