Petr Mrazek made his NHL debut for the Red Wings on Thursday, but the only thing cooler than the 20-year-old getting his first win has got to be his helmet.
Mrazek’s mask features an image of Peter Griffin from Family Guy sporting a Superman outfit. The unlikely combination even has a somewhat logical explanation behind it. The image is a mix between Mrazek’s first name and the mascot for the Grand Rapids Griffins — the AHL team he has played 25 games for this season. And the Superman aspect of the caricature because just having Peter Griffin would have been silly.
Tom McCollum, another backup goaltender for the Red Wings, wowed fans earlier this season with his hockey mask featuring Chris Farley, but Mrazek’s artwork gives his a run for its money. While Jimmy Howard will continue to do the bulk of the work between the pipes for Detroit, here’s hoping the Red Wings have another backup with more hilarious cartoons.
Check out the mask below.
