Just days after the latest blizzard dumped upward of two feet of snow on New England, the Red Sox are ready to get to work in a much nicer climate.

Sunday marked the official report date for pitchers and catchers, and the official beginning of baseball season, though many players already had arrived at the team’s spring training facility in Fort Myers, Fla., before Sunday. The players will undergo physicals and other evaluations Monday before scheduled workouts begin the following day.

Any Red Sox who are tired of winter weather will get a pleasant change of pace in Florida, as the predicted temperatures in Fort Myers are nearly 40 degrees higher than those in Boston. Monday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 83 degrees in the City of Palms, while those in Boston can look forward to the always pleasant “wintry mix,” according to Weather.com.

That juxtaposition can be seen in the photos below of the mountainous snow drifts in Middletown, Conn., and the lush green fields of the Sunshine State.
