Alex Rodriguez is showing plenty of perseverance. Or maybe he just really likes money. Either way, we shouldn’t be so quick to write off A-Rod’s career.
Rodriguez has “no plans” to retire from baseball, according to the New York Daily News.
Rodriguez had hip surgery earlier this offseason and was already expected to miss a big chunk of 2013, but his future became even cloudier in the wake of a Miami New Times report that listed Rodriguez among the major leaguers linked to a PED-selling, anti-aging clinic in south Florida.
There has been speculation since the PED report came out on Tuesday that Rodriguez may have played his last game. Apparently, that’s no longer thought to be a foregone conclusion, and a source reportedly told the New York Daily News that Rodriguez is focused on his current rehab.
This really shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise considering Rodriguez has five years and $114 million remaining on his contract. Perhaps the idea of Rodriguez retiring was simply wishful thinking on the part of the Yankees, as it would allow them to collect insurance on the slugger’s abomination of a deal.
