greg odenBoston is looking more and more like the venue for the Greg Oden comeback tour.

Oden met with a group of Celtics executives including president of basketball operations Danny Ainge on Saturday to discuss a potential contract, the Boston Herald reports.

The Celtics’ roster is suddenly lacking presence in the paint after it was announced Friday that rookie forward Jared Sullinger will undergo back surgery and miss the remainder of the season. Ainge said that while he does not believe the 2007 No. 1 draft pick is in game shape quite yet, his comeback attempt has greatly intrigued the team.

“We’re just finding out as much as we can and letting Greg know what we have here,” Ainge said. “He’s not ready to play now, but he’s someone who’s very interesting.”

A seven-foot center, Oden — who, like Sullinger, starred at Ohio State before making the jump to the NBA — certainly has the tools to be a formidable big man down low, but has yet to prove he can stay healthy for a full season. In his five years since being drafted, Oden has appeared in just 82 games. He was released by Portland in May.

No official offers have been made to the 25-year-old, who has also drawn interest from Miami and Cleveland.
