Jhonny Peralta, come on down!
SI.com’s Tom Verducci reports that Peralta’s name was found in the records of Tony Bosch, the director of the South Florida clinic that allegedly sold performance-enhancing drugs to Alex Rodriguez and other major leaguers.
Peralta reportedly does not appear to be directly tied to PEDs in the records, and in a statement the Tigers shortstop denied ever taking PEDs.
“I have never used performance enhancing drugs. Period. Anybody who says otherwise is lying,” Barry Boss, an attorney for Peralta, said in a statement on behalf of his client.
Peralta becomes the 12th baseball player connected to Bosch’s notes. While he isn’t directly tied to PEDs like some of the other players mentioned in the records, he is the fifth client of the ACES agency of Seth and Sam Levinson and with an association with Juan Nunez to be connected to clinic records. Nunez was a former runner for the agency, and was banned from baseball after being tied to last year’s fake website attempt involving Melky Cabrera, who was suspended 50 games last season and also mentioned in Bosch’s records.
Tigers president Dave Dombrowski reportedly declined to discuss the situation involving Peralta. At this point, who knows what other names will surface before this whole thing is said and done.
