Oscar PistoriusThe story of “Blade Runner” Oscar Pistorius captured public attention because of its stark contrast to many sports stories of the day. While baseball and cycling struggled with their performance-enhancing drug problem — and basketball and football seemingly ignored theirs — here was an athlete who struggled against his body to accomplish incredible feats.

Well, so much for that narrative.

According to the reports of the UK tabloid The Mirror, upon Pistorius’ arrest for allegedly shooting his girlfriend, South African model Reeva Steenkamp, “boxes and boxes” of steroids were discovered in a drawer in the athlete’s home by police. Pistorius says that he was holding the PEDs for a friend, according to The Mirror’s article.

Moreover, police may be investigating whether or not the drugs played a role in a potential crime. According to reports, police are following up on a theory that Pistorius may have shot Steenkamp in a fit of roid rage.
