Robert Griffin III‘s season ended with the agony of a partially torn ACL a little over one month ago, but the Redskins expect their franchise quarterback to be back on the field come Week 1 of the regular season.
Griffin tore his ACL and LCL in the Redskins’ 24-14 wild card playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 6. The initial timeline for his recovery was set for between six and eight months, and it appears that RG3 might be even ahead of that projection, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Redskins officials already are encouraged enough with @rgiii‘s recovery to believe he has a legitimate chance to start on opening day.

This is the second time Griffin underwent surgery to repair a torn ACL, which he also experienced while in college at Baylor.
Griffin won the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award after an incredible debut season. He passed for 3,200 yards and 20 touchdowns and ran for over 800 yards and seven touchdowns to beat out Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson for the honor.
With so much of the Redskins future success riding on Griffin, this early report is a positive indicator that he will be back to full health next season. Griffin may not be the second coming of Adrian Peterson in his return, but a repeat of his production from 2012 would more than suffice.
