In many ways, Roman Sweeney, a member of the basketball team at North Central Charter Essential School in Fitchburg, is like any teenager. In one way, though, he is not.
Sweeney was born with no legs and only one arm, but the teen is adamant about the fact that his disability does not define him.
“If you feel handicapped then that’s what people are going to see you as,” Sweeney, who wears titanium prosthetics on his lower legs, said. “People still see me as handicapped, but once I actually try the activity or whatever they’re doing, they don’t see me as handicapped and just treat me like a regular guy.
