A gruesome hockey injury in Canada is causing debate after a teenage player took a two-hander to the face during a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game.

Brian Lovell, 17, suffered a broken jaw when 19-year-old Ross Johnston slashed him across the face with his stick. But that’s just the gist of the story.

As seen in the video below, Johnson’s stick got caught in the dashboard, and he tried to remove it in such a violent fashion that, once dislodged, the momentum sent the stick right across Lovell’s grill. Some believe it was purely accidental, while others think Johnson played it off as if it were an accident.

You be the judge.
