Carl Crawford really, really didn’t like his time in Boston, and that’s not even taking into account he hit just .260 with 14 home runs, 75 RBIs and just 23 steals in 161 games over two seasons.
As many have been known to do over the years, Crawford is now blasting the Boston media for how they treated him during his time in the Hub. The Dodgers outfielder still has some pretty hard feelings about the way things went with the Red Sox, particularly with how he was treated by the vaunted Boston media.
Ultimately, it wasn’t a good mix, he says, despite the fact that he was given a seven-year contract worth $142 million.
“It just wasn’t the right place for me at the end of my day,” Crawford said, according to CBSSports.com. “I didn’t do my homework. Maybe they didn’t, either. At the end of the day, it just wasn’t the place for me.”
Then there’s the media. Oh, the Boston sports media.
“That smile turned upside down quick,” Crawford said. “I think they want to see that in Boston. They love it when you’re miserable. Burying people in the media, they think that makes a person play better. That media was the worst thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.”
To Crawford’s credit, he did take the blame for not living up to the contract in Boston.
“I get it, I didn’t perform. I got the money. I didn’t perform. I gave them every reason.”
